Green Bio-manufacturing

Bio-manufacturing is a new industrial mode, using industrial biotechnology and a combination of chemical engineering technologies to produce chemicals, energy, and materials from biomass and other raw materials. Bio-manufactured products and technologies applications can radiate into industries such as chemical industry, energy, new materials, agriculture, forestry, light industry, environmental protection, medicine, and food, which have an output value of 8-10 trillion RMB. Bio-manufacturing can reduce carbon emissions from the raw materials and achieve a green and clean production process through industrial biotechnology. Benefit from the ‘green’ system of bio-manufacturing, it can change the existing mode of “high energy consumption and high emission” in China's economic and social development.

At present, the global bio-manufacturing industry is at the critical stage of technological breakthroughs and commercial application. Therefore, the development of bio-manufacturing technologies is of great strategic significance for promoting global coordinated and sustainable development of economy and environment, as well as actively responding to economic globalization and international competition.

To achieve the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the artificial photosynthesis - photo-enzyme coupling CO2 fixation was researched by our group. Based on the reduction of NADH by cheap metal free photocatalyst g-C3N4, combined with ZIF-8 multi enzyme immobilization technology, a light enzyme composite system is constructed, which has achieved the goal of light regeneration of NADH and improving the efficiency of enzyme reaction.
